🎬 On Monday at Show’n’Tell Cinema Club, Nikita is screening “The Act of Killing” (2012)! A very special and heavy film about people who killed thousands — and years later talk about it with laughter, pride, and even pleasure. In 1965–1966 in Indonesia, after an attempted coup, mass killings of communists and those suspected of supporting them began. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed, and the perpetrators never faced punishment. Director Joshua Oppenheimer invites some of them to revisit the past and reenact their own crimes as if they were making a movie. They laugh, brag, and describe in detail how they killed people. But gradually something changes. Behind the bravado, fear, memories, and an awareness of what they actually did begin to surface. 🗣 The film will be shown in its original language with English subtitles, after which we will discuss this very special film together. ⚠️ Warning: the film is psychologically heavy.
